A compromise agreement is a statutory agreements between an employee and his employer to mutually agree to terminate a contract, usually pay salary to a certain date, part or all of the contractual notice period, and often an ex gratia payment (which can be tax free up to a maximum of £30,000.00).

To be legally binding the employee must have received separate, independent legal advice, generally paid for by the employer.
